Belgium IBAN Format Guide

Belgian IBANs are 16 characters — among the shortest in Europe. They encode a 3-digit bank code and a 7-digit account number with 2 national check digits.

Belgian IBAN Structure

A Belgian IBAN is always 16 characters long:

  • BE — country code
  • XX — 2 check digits (which also serve as Belgian national check digits)
  • XXX — 3-digit bank code
  • XXXXXXX — 7-digit account number
  • XX — 2 national check digits

Example: BE68 5390 0754 7034

The Belgian Check Digits

Unusually, Belgium's IBAN check digits (positions 3–4) are the same digits used as the national account check digits. This means the validation is slightly different from standard IBAN MOD-97 in how the original domestic number is constructed.

Major Belgian Banks

BNP Paribas Fortis uses bank code 210; KBC uses 735; ING Belgium uses 363; Belfius uses 068.
