How Wise Uses IBANs
Wise is a popular money transfer service that significantly undercuts traditional banks on fees and exchange rates. For transfers to IBAN countries, you simply enter the recipient's IBAN — Wise handles the rest, including routing through local payment networks to avoid correspondent bank fees.
Wise Multi-Currency Account IBANs
Wise offers a multi-currency account that gives you local IBANs for several currencies. For example, you can receive a Belgian IBAN (for euro payments), a UK sort code + account number (for GBP), and account numbers in several other currencies — all under one Wise account.
Validating IBANs Before Sending
Wise validates the IBAN you enter, but it is best practice to validate it yourself first using our free tool. This confirms the checksum is correct and the country/bank structure matches what you expect before you commit to a transfer.
IBAN Countries Wise Supports
Wise supports transfers to nearly all 77 IBAN countries, as well as non-IBAN countries via SWIFT. For SEPA transfers within Europe, Wise routes through local banking rails for same-day or next-day settlement.
