Russia IBAN Format
33-character IBAN · RUB Russian Ruble
A Russia IBAN is 33 characters long and always begins with the country code RU, followed by two check digits. The next 9 characters are the BIK (Bank Code). This is followed by the Branch Code (5 characters). The remaining 15 characters identify the individual account number. The Russia IBAN uses the RUB (Russian Ruble) and is not part of the SEPA zone, so international transfer fees and timelines apply.

Pattern validates length, country code, check digit positions, and field character types. Does not verify the MOD-97 checksum (use the validator above for full validation).
$iban = strtoupper(str_replace(' ', '', $input));
if (!preg_match('/^RU\\d{2}\\d{9}\\d{5}[A-Z0-9]{15}$/', $iban)) {
// Invalid Russia IBAN format
}
const iban = input.replace(/\s+/g, '').toUpperCase();
const pattern = /^RU\d{2}\d{9}\d{5}[A-Z0-9]{15}$/;
if (!pattern.test(iban)) {
// Invalid Russia IBAN format
}
import re
iban = input_str.replace(' ', '').upper()
pattern = r'^RU\d{2}\d{9}\d{5}[A-Z0-9]{15}$'
if not re.fullmatch(pattern, iban):
# Invalid Russia IBAN format

How to Find Your Russia IBAN
Russia accounts are traditionally identified using: Bank Code (9n) + Account Number (15n). Your IBAN encodes these same components in the standardised international format.

Sending Money to Russia
- Recipient's full name
- IBAN (33 characters, starts with RU)
- BIC / SWIFT code
- Recipient's bank address (some banks)
Russia adopted IBAN in 2019 but its use for international transfers is severely restricted due to SWIFT sanctions. Not SEPA. Domestic Russian transfers continue to use the BIK routing code system.
Specialist services typically charge significantly less than high-street banks for international transfers.
