Ireland IBAN Format
22-character IBAN · EUR Euro · SEPA zone
A Ireland IBAN is 22 characters long and always begins with the country code IE, followed by two check digits. The next 4 characters are the Bank Identifier (BIC). This is followed by the Sort Code (6 characters). The remaining 8 characters identify the individual account number. The Ireland IBAN uses the EUR (Euro) and is a <strong>SEPA member</strong>, meaning euro transfers from other SEPA countries are fast and low-cost.

$iban = strtoupper(str_replace(' ', '', $input));
if (!preg_match('/^IE\\d{2}[A-Z]{4}\\d{6}\\d{8}$/', $iban)) {

Ireland is a SEPA member using the Euro. IBAN alone is sufficient for SEPA transfers. Irish IBANs encode a 6-digit sort code and 8-digit account number in the BBAN. Revolut, bunq and other fintechs operating in Ireland issue IE IBANs.
Specialist services typically charge significantly less than high-street banks for international transfers.
