IBANs for Non-SEPA Countries: UAE, Israel, and More

Not all IBAN countries are in SEPA. The UAE, Israel, Pakistan, and 40+ others use IBAN format but are outside the SEPA payment zone.

IBAN Is Not Exclusive to SEPA

A common misconception is that IBAN is a European system. In fact, 77 countries worldwide use IBAN — including many in the Middle East, the Caribbean, and Central Asia. However, only 36 of those countries are in SEPA.

Non-SEPA Countries Using IBAN

Notable non-SEPA IBAN countries include:

  • United Arab Emirates: 23-character IBAN
  • Israel: 23-character IBAN
  • Saudi Arabia: 24-character IBAN
  • Pakistan: 24-character IBAN
  • Jordan: 30-character IBAN
  • Turkey: 26-character IBAN

What Changes for Non-SEPA IBAN Transfers?

For transfers to non-SEPA IBAN countries, you still use the IBAN — but you also need the bank's SWIFT/BIC code. Processing times are 2–5 business days, and correspondent bank fees may apply. The IBAN is still validated using the same MOD-97 algorithm.
