Netherlands IBAN Format: Everything You Need to Know
Dutch IBANs are 18 characters — one of the shorter formats in Europe. They include a 4-letter bank code and 10-digit account number.
Netherlands IBAN Structure
A Dutch IBAN is always 18 characters long:
- NL — country code
- XX — 2 check digits
- XXXX — 4-letter bank identifier (BIC prefix)
- XXXXXXXXXX — 10-digit account number
Example: NL91 ABNA 0417 1643 00

Dutch Bank Codes
ABN AMRO uses ABNA; ING uses INGB; Rabobank uses RABO; SNS Bank uses SNSB. These 4-letter identifiers appear in positions 5–8 of every Dutch IBAN.
Netherlands and SEPA
The Netherlands is a full SEPA member, meaning all domestic euro transfers use IBANs and cost the same as any other SEPA transfer within Europe.
